When Mitch and Wendy set eyes on The Valley Estate for the first time, they knew immediately it was the one. No second venue visits, no weighing up options. Just that unmistakable feeling of this is it. And honestly? It’s easy to see why.
As a Brisbane and Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, I travel throughout South East Queensland to document love stories, and Gold Coast weddings consistently deliver some of the most stunning backdrops I get to work with. The Valley Estate is in a league of its own.
Elegant Burgundy Wedding Styling: Less is More
Mitch and Wendy’s approach to their wedding aesthetic was refreshingly simple: let the venue shine, and keep the styling elegant and unfussy.
Wendy’s favourite colour is pink. Mitch’s is red. The compromise? A rich, romantic burgundy that suited the grandeur of The Valley Estate perfectly. It’s a palette that photographs beautifully in both the soft natural light of the glasshouse and the warm golden tones of a Gold Coast evening.
They made a smart call not to over-style a venue this beautiful. Sometimes the best wedding decor decision is knowing when to step back and let the space do the talking.
The Best Part of the Day? The People.
Ask Mitch and Wendy what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day, and they’ll both give you the same answer: their people.
“Seeing all our friends and family together to celebrate us,” Mitch said. Wendy echoed it perfectly – they both just wanted to enjoy the day, have fun, and be present with the most important people in their lives.
That intention set the tone for everything. This wasn’t a wedding built around impressing guests – it was built around celebrating with them.
Gold Coast Wedding Catering Done Right
Roaming canapes during cocktail hour kept the energy light and social while guests mingled in the gorgeous grounds. The reception moved into a generous share banquet – the kind of communal dining style that gets people talking, laughing, and lingering at the table.
And the drinks? Free flowing. Exactly as it should be.
Live Music, DJ + Sax Combo: The Dancefloor Moment
If you ask Wendy what she most wanted to wow her guests with, her answer is instant: the live music. Specifically, a DJ and saxophone combo for the dancefloor portion of the evening.
There is something about a live sax over a DJ set that absolutely elevates a reception. It’s one of those vendor choices that guests talk about for weeks afterwards. Paired with Mitch’s simple wish – everyone letting their hair down and having a good time – this couple delivered a night nobody would forget.
The live entertainment element is something I always love capturing as a photographer. The energy, the movement, the joy on people’s faces when the music hits just right – it makes for some of the most genuine and vibrant images of the entire day.
